Lewiston, Maine Active Shooter - On October 25, 2023, the city of Lewiston, Maine, Suspect Robert Card, a 40-year-old Army Reservist, attacked two locations—a bowling alley and a restaurant—killing 18 people and injuring 13 more. The attacks unfolded within minutes, with Card using a legally purchased semi-automatic rifle; he then evaded capture, prompting a two-day manhunt before being found deceased.
Boulder, Colorado, King Soopers Active Shooter - On March 22, 2021, a gunman opened fire at the King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, killing 10 people—including a Boulder police officer, Eric Talley—and injuring several others. Law enforcement from multiple agencies responded rapidly, confronting the heavily armed shooter inside the store; Officer Talley was killed as he rushed in to save lives, while other officers ultimately subdued and arrested the suspect after a standoff.
Monterey Park, California Active Shooter - On January 21, 2023, a tragic mass shooting occurred at a dance studio in Monterey Park, California, during Lunar New Year celebrations. The gunman, identified as a 72-year-old man, opened fire at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, killing 11 people and wounding nine others. The shooting sent shockwaves through the vibrant community known for its strong Asian-American presence.
Following the attack, the gunman attempted to target another dance studio in nearby Alhambra but was disarmed by two individuals who managed to wrestle the weapon away, preventing further violence. The shooter later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Torrance, California, after law enforcement closed in on his vehicle.
