The OTOA Tactical Team Response to Active Threat 16-hour course provides tactical teams with principles and tactics to respond to an active threat event. OPOTA CPT approved and AG grant funded.
The course was developed for the tactical team members to accomplish their primary mission of Saving Lives successfully. It is one of the only training programs that combine classroom evidence-based principles with practical skill-based tactics.
The class culminates with safe, reality-based scenarios that include de-escalation tactics. The Active Threat principles and tactics are behavior-based.
Additional topics will include constitutional use of force, de-escalation tactics, and linking up with additional and plainclothes officers.

This course is restricted to OPOTC-certified peace officers, and troopers assigned full-time or part-time to a law enforcement tactical team are eligible to participate in CPT-approved School-Response Training for Members of Ohio Law Enforcement Tactical Teams.
This training is offered by the Ohio Tactical Officers Association (OTOA) and is approved by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA) for 16 credit hours of 2023 Continued Professional Training (CPT)
This Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission-approved training course and curriculum are eligible for 100% tuition reimbursement through the Office of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and the Officer School Safety Grants program.

Students will be introduced to basic SWAT topics, tactics, and techniques including a historical overview of SWAT, team organization and structure, resolution of barricaded suspect situations, individual and team movement, searches and room clearing, less-lethal options, warrant service, and multiple field training exercises. This is a hands-on, high-intensity course in which students practice tactics and techniques in the field.
All sworn first responders (state-federal-local) are encouraged to take this course. This course will also benefit officers that are not assigned to a specialized team (SWAT/SRT).
This course is restricted to sworn officers of a United States governmental agency.

The OTOA Advanced SWAT class lasts 5 days, including one live-fire range day. The class will enhance principles learned in the OTOA Basic SWAT class as well as introduce the student's new principles and tactics to allow them to be more skilled operators. The classes are set for eight-hour days however we will train to a standard not to a time so come prepared to train. Topics will include immediate action drills, enhanced firearms proficiency and skill builders, and an introduction to hostage rescue principles in small teams.
This course is restricted to OTOA Members AND sworn officers of a United States governmental agency.
This course offers training for SWAT team members with prior basic SWAT training and will address advanced tactics and techniques.

This course is restricted to OTOA Members AND sworn officers of a United States governmental agency.
The OTOA Basic Precision Scoped Rifle School instruction begins in the classroom with an understanding of equipment selection and setup, followed by ammunition selection and internal, external, and terminal ballistics review. Range instruction focuses on fundamental marksmanship skills including alternative shooting positions, zeroing a rifle, grouping, and scope tracking. Live fire exercises and function drills are designed to test the soundness of the rifle/optic combo in field conditions, and students will practice engaging paper and steel targets out to 300 yards (range dependent) using a mix of improvised positions. The course concludes with a preventative maintenance and equipment care session.
This OTOA high-level course is designed to take the students’ mastery of the precision scoped rifle to the next level.
The Ohio Tactical Officers Association Tactical Team Leader course is designed to expose current and future SWAT Team Commanders, Team Leaders, crisis negotiators, supervisors, administrators, and ALL responding officers to contemporary critical incident response issues, tactics, and procedures.
This course is NOT just for the SWAT/SRT Officer, ALL first responders will benefit.
A follow up to the OTOA Tactical Team Leader course, the Tactical Leadership - Operations Planning is designed to expose police personnel to procedures used for tactical mission planning and briefing of involved personnel.
The OTOA Active Threat Response - User Course provides officers with principles and tactics to respond as a single officer in an active threat event.
The OTOA Active Threat Response Train the Trainer course provides officers with principles and tactics to respond as a single officer in an active threat event.
Students will be fully prepared and equipped to train their fellow officers within their agencies upon completion of this course.
This comprehensive two-day class will cover the safe and efficient deployment of pistols and rifles in and around officers, suspects, and uninvolved bystanders while in a close-quarters environment.
This course is designed to prepare the Patrol Officer and Supervisor to take on a leadership role during critical incidents, prior to the arrival of specialized tactical units, promoting an organized and professional tactical patrol response.
