Awards
The OTOA wants to acknowledge tactically minded first responders and individuals who exhibit commitment, expertise, enthusiasm, support, and/or valorous actions.
Any person can nominate an individual or group who qualifies for recognition.
An awards committee selected by the OTOA board of directors will make the final decision regarding the recipient(s) of the awards.
Steven Michael Smith Award for Valor

This prestigious award is presented each year to the person who distinguishes themselves through valorous actions during a life-threatening action.

The nomination(s) eligible for review shall be the previous year of the awards banquet. (For example - Banquet in 2023, the situation must occur in 2023 or earlier to be eligible for review)
Award for Unit/Team Valor

This award is presented each year to a SWAT/Tactical/Patrol Unit whose members distinguished themselves through valorous actions during a tactical operation or call for service.

The nomination(s) eligible for review shall be the previous year of the awards banquet. (For example - Banquet in 2023, the situation must occur in 2023 or earlier to be eligible for review)
Life Saving Award

OTOA Life Saving Award is presented to the officer(s) who put themselves at risk of serious physical harm to save another who is in imminent danger of death.

The nomination(s) eligible for review shall be the previous year of the awards banquet. (For example - Banquet in 2023, the situation must occur in 2023 or earlier to be eligible for review)
Award of Excellence

This award is presented each year to the individual who contributes the most to further the goals of the tactical community.

A selection committee bases its decision on evaluating his or her performance, dedication, and leadership.

Dave Roose Spirit Award

This award honors an individual, corporation, or organization whose support drives the ultimate vision of the OTOA.
