Bus Rescue and Intervention Tactics
Practical, mission-focused training addressing the unique operational challenges presented by large passenger vehicles.
Course Description
This eight-hour training block utilizes a full-size coach bus and school bus platform to familiarize participants with vehicle layout, access points, structural considerations, and operational challenges unique to large passenger vehicles.
Officers will develop an understanding of bus construction, interior configurations, driver compartments, emergency exits, and mobility limitations. The course introduces participants to a variety of techniques, tools, and tactics for addressing the challenges encountered when responding to incidents involving buses.
Eligibility
OPOTC-certified peace officers, deputies, and troopers employed full- or part-time by an Ohio law enforcement agency.
Important Firearms & Safety Requirements
NO LIVE AMMUNITION OR MAGAZINES ARE PERMITTED WITHIN THE TRAINING ENVIRONMENT OR CLASSROOMS.
ALL TRAINING RIFLES WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE OTOA FOR SCENARIO-BASED EXERCISES.
Carrying a SIG P320 or variant? Unload before entering any training area.
Student Equipment List
- Duty or individually owned rifle/carbine with sling (NO LIVE AMMO)
- Duty or individually owned semi-auto pistol (NO LIVE AMMO)
- Duty belt with holster or concealed holster
- Patrol external body armor / vest carrier, if applicable
- Handheld flashlight
- Protective gloves suitable for holding and firing a pistol and rifle
- Training-appropriate attire
- Wrap-around eye protection
- Baseball-style hat / billed cap
- Note-taking materials
- Water and any additional food or beverages you may want
- NO Tasers, NO batons, and NO OC spray
OTOA Will Provide
Training pistols/rifles, appropriate safety equipment, and training munitions for scenario-based training.
Start Time: 8:00 AM
This one-day course will begin promptly at 8:00 AM. Please arrive prepared with all required equipment, unloaded firearms, note-taking materials, and safety equipment.
Lunch
Students will receive a scheduled lunch break. Lunch will be provided by 511 Tactical. Please plan accordingly and bring water and any additional food or beverages you may want.
Medical
If you are allergic to bees, outdoor plants, or animals, please bring your epinephrine pen or other required medication.
Life-threatening allergies and pre-existing injuries or conditions must be reported to OTOA training staff on the first day of training.
Lodging, Travel & Meals
Students are responsible for their ammunition, lodging, transportation, water, and any additional food.
Lunch for this event will be provided by 511 Tactical.
