WHO WE ARE

Footprint is a situational awareness platform for law enforcement and public safety, built by New Dawn Labs — a University of Dayton Research Institute spinout founded by the UDRI researchers behind open-standard sensor programs for the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, the U.S. Air Force and the Department of Homeland Security. That team spent its career solving one problem for the military: making systems from different vendors work together without forcing anyone to replace what they already own. Footprint is that same engineering discipline pointed at public safety.

We are based in the Dayton region and we build alongside working officers. Footprint was crafted in collaboration with local law enforcement, and it is priced for the small and mid-sized agencies that make up most of Ohio.

WHAT FOOTPRINT DOES

Most agencies run CAD/911, records, video and sensor systems as separate tools. That means dispatchers, command staff and field units are frequently working from different pictures of the same incident. Footprint puts them on one screen.

  • One real-time map. Live and recorded video, CAD and RMS data, historical crime records and IoT sensor alerts unified in a single web-based view — the same picture for command staff and field units, on any device.
  • Camera awareness before you need it. Every camera in a coverage area — public or private, whatever system it runs on — plotted on the map with owner and contact information attached.
  • Live video from any system. Stream live and recorded video from the camera systems you already run — city-owned, private partner, fixed or mobile — into the same operational view. No requirement to standardize on one camera vendor, and no separate console per system.
  • Independent of your vendor's portal — and that is the point. Footprint is not your camera or ALPR provider's console. It is a layer your agency owns and administers: access governed by role and assignment, every video and data query logged against the user and the purpose, and the audit record held in your environment rather than on a vendor platform. When a chief, a prosecutor, a commission or the public asks who looked at what and why, the answer is in one place and it belongs to you.
  • Analytics and mapping. Configurable dashboards for crime queries and trend analysis, with Esri heat maps that lay historical and live data side by side.
  • No rip-and-replace. Footprint is a layer over the equipment you already own, not a reason to replace it. Protocol- and vendor-agnostic by design.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR CRITICAL INCIDENTS

In a fast-moving event, the constraint is rarely effort — it is information arriving in the wrong places at the wrong times. Footprint is built to shorten that gap: responding units, dispatch and incident command see the same live picture simultaneously; the cameras covering a location are already mapped and attributed before anyone has to go looking, whoever owns them and whatever system they run on; and every view taken during the response is logged, so the after-action account of who saw what is a record rather than a reconstruction. The platform organizes the data. The decisions stay with the officers and analysts who are trained to make them.

WHAT WE VALUE

  • Interoperability. Agencies should not have to buy one vendor's whole ecosystem to get a complete picture. Open architecture is how we started and how we build.
  • Built for Ohio officers. The platform was built here in the Dayton region, crafted in collaboration with working Ohio law enforcement. Ease of use is a design requirement, not a feature.
  • Privacy. Footprint is not a data broker. We do not broker or sell agency or citizen information.
  • Access. Capability that has historically been reserved for large metro agencies, priced and scoped for departments of every size.
  • Service. Our roots are in federal and defense research, but our customers are the agencies down the road from us.

WHO WE SERVE

Municipal, county and campus law enforcement; healthcare campuses; airports; stadiums and event venues; and government facilities. Footprint adapts to any operation that needs to see geo-located data and live video in one place.
