On May 24, 2022, an active shooter tragically claimed the lives of 19 children and two staff members, leaving a profound physical and emotional impact on survivors, their families, school staff, and the broader community of Uvalde, Texas.
At the request of Uvalde’s leadership, the U.S. Department of Justice conducted a Critical Incident Review (CIR) to provide an independent and objective assessment of the events of that day and the systems in place leading up to the tragedy. The CIR aimed to deliver valuable insights to those most affected and to contribute to best practices for responding to incidents of mass violence.
