Course Description

The Pragmatic Pistol Defense for Law Enforcement course is designed to provide officers with the essential skills and techniques needed for effective handgun use in high-pressure situations. Focusing on real-world scenarios, the course covers shooting fundamentals, tactical movement, situational awareness, and decision-making under stress. Officers will participate in hands-on, timed drills that emphasize both accuracy and speed, while also covering the practical use of their equipment. The goal is to increase officers’ confidence and proficiency in pistol defense to ensure both public safety and officer protection.

Course Objectives Include:

  • Understanding the Importance of Pistol Defense: How it applies in various law enforcement scenarios
  • Emergency Response Procedures: Protocols for responding effectively under stress
  • Pistol Defense Basics: Key principles for effective handgun use
  • Pistol Components and Operation: Understanding how the firearm works
  • Ammunition Types and Selection: Choosing the right ammunition for various situations
  • Shooting Fundamentals: Stance, grip, sight alignment, breathing, and trigger control
  • Dry Firing Exercises: Practicing technique without live ammunition
  • Environment and Threat Assessment: Understanding how to assess threats in various environments
  • Engaging Targets While Moving: Techniques for shooting on the move
  • Engaging Multiple Targets: Efficiently handling multiple threats
  • Use of Cover and Concealment: How to use your environment for protection during engagements

This course will ensure officers are well-prepared to respond to threats with speed, accuracy, and confidence while maintaining a focus on safety and professionalism.

Student Requirements

  • (Duty Gear) - Belt, duty holster,
  • patrol vest,
  • flashlight both handheld and weapon mounted light,
  • (3) three pistol magazines,
  • ear and eye protection.
  • Officers will need 500-600 rounds of (training) ammunition.
