Ben Sonstrom Bio

Ben Sonstrom, Founder of STORM Training & Consulting, LLC, is a dedicated, innovative, proactive leader in the fields of Law Enforcement Special Operations, Operational Medicine, Criminal & Narcotic Interdiction and Public Safety. His 30+ year professional career includes proven leadership as a Tactical Paramedic and Tactical Medical Team Leader. He has a history of instruction and involvement at the local, state, and national level, including work with federal agencies and military units worldwide. 

Ben has developed and delivered training in Shooting Techniques, and the delivery of Medical Care in Hostile Environments, while integrating other critical skillsets into his training. Ben Developed the Critical Incident Casualty Management™ program, which he has instructed in agencies throughout the United States.

A recognized innovator, advocate and thought leader, Ben was instrumental in authoring State of Michigan legislation on the care and transport of sick or injured canine partners by EMS. In 2018 he created the Tactical Rescue Challenge and served as the coordinator every year since.

Prior to his career in law enforcement, Ben served as a Firefighter/Paramedic, with a focus on Tactical Medicine, Disaster Medicine, and Specialized Rescue. Ben has been actively involved in Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) since 1999. His extensive TEMS experience includes providing and overseeing tactical medical operations, instruction, and curriculum development at the local, state and national level.

Ben continues to train throughout the country and has been recognized at the national level for competitive excellence in shooting. In 2011 he was honored to be the recipient of the NTOA TEMS award. He is one of only eight individuals in over 45 years to obtain a perfect 125 points at the Rogers Shooting School, receiving recognition as a Rogers Shooting School "Possible" Shooter. This was earned on October 28, 2022. Ben is honored to have his name join the list that includes Bill Rogers and Rob Leatham.

Committed to a lifetime learning process and continuous improvement as a professional Ben is constantly researching and implementing best methods to win deadly force encounters and to decrease morbidity and mortality during critical incidents. Through feedback and constant motivation, he is committed to improving his effectiveness in delivering these essential lessons to the First Responder and Civilian Populations.
