Course Description

This 1-day (8-hour) course is designed to help officers respond more effectively during an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) critical incident. The course focuses on developing a process-based approach to handgun shooting, emphasizing essential skills for deploying a handgun efficiently in high-stress situations.

  • Efficient duty gear setup
  • Shooting platform and structure
  • Fundamentals of defensive marksmanship
  • Achieving acceptable accuracy based on target perception
  • Balancing speed and precision
  • Breaking down drills and techniques into component skills
  • Critical incident reloading

By the end of this course, officers will have improved their ability to respond decisively and effectively in high-pressure situations.

Student Requirements

MANDATORY Body Armor (Hard or Soft) 

  • Duty/Tactical belt if issued
  • Duty handgun with holster and 3 magazines minimum
  • 400 rounds of quality handgun ammunition
  • Ear and Eye Protection
  • Packed lunch/snacks/hydration source. Clothing for weather conditions, knee pads
  • Billed hat
  • Note taking materials
