This course is designed to prepare the Patrol Officer and Supervisor to take on a leadership
role during critical incidents, prior to the arrival of specialized tactical units, promoting an
organized and professional tactical patrol response. Topics covered will include small unit
leadership, decision making models, the assessment and application of patrol equipment,
application of a condensed Incident Command System, enhancing patrol training and
lessons learned through the review of actual patrol responses to armed suspects. This
course will be instructed by retired Lieutenant Paul Ohl who served with the Columbus Ohio
Division of Police over 31 years with 18 of those years in Patrol and nine years as the Team
Commander of SWAT.
