Edward Mohn Bio

Chief Mohn has been a police officer for over 35 years.

For 27 years Ed has served with the Northern Illinois Police Alarm Systems
Emergency Services Team (NIPAS-EST). The largest multi-jurisdictional SWAT
Team in the United States, with 100+ members, serving 74 communities in the 5
counties around Chicago in Northeast Illinois, with a combined population of over
2 million residents. He has served on the perimeter and entry teams, he was the
Teams Entry Team Leader / Assault Force Commander for over 15yrs and
currently serves as the Operational Tactical Commander, Director of Training, and
Assistant Team Commander. Ed has planned and lead his team in the successful
resolution of over 1,000 critical incidents.
 
Chief Mohn is the current President and Director of Training for the Illinois
Tactical Officers Association (ITOA). He is a lead instructor in all aspects of
SWAT tactical response and has been the lead instructor and statewide coordinator
for the ITOA’s Active Threat training efforts for 20+ years. He has personally
trained and certified thousands of first responders and instructors in all aspects of
SWAT Team Tactics, the Active Threat Response curriculum, and Critical
Incident Leadership and Management.
 
Chief Mohn is a nationally recognized Lead Instructor and has been a trainer and
main presenter at numerous state and national conferences and conventions. Ed has
served and continues to serve on numerous NTOA Committees and also serves on
multiple regional & state committees as a SWAT / Active Threat response Subject Matter
Expert. Ed has vast amounts of operational experience, from small isolated
callouts, to major regional and national level critical events.

His experience ranges from being appointed as the SWAT Team Commander and
Operations Section Chief for the Task Force Illinois response to Hurricane Katrina
in New Orleans (2005), to recently being the Operational Tactical Commander at
the Six Flags Great America Shooting in Gurnee Illinois (2022) and the 4th of July
Parade Mass Shooting in Highland Park Illinois (2022).
 
Chief Mohn has been highly decorated for his actions, including the Medal of
Valor, 3 Medals of Commendation, 3 Meritorious Service Medals, the Life Saving
Medal, multiple Significant Incident Awards and over 350 letters of
commendation.
 
Prior to starting his career in Law Enforcement, Ed proudly served 7 Years in the
United States Army. Five of those years as an Infantry Non-Commissioned Officer
with the 1st Infantry Division, 16th Infantry Regiment.
