Advanced Training Course Descriptions

The OTOA applies contemporary and proven principles to all advanced training - Sound principles lead into life-saving tactics

Basic SWAT Schools

Principle Based Decision Making

The OTOA doesn't preach "Tactics"
The OTOA teaches "Principles"

OTOA provides a foundation of proven and contemporary principles in responding to critical incidents.

Everything in this response protocol is built on principles; violating a principle can lead to a poor "tactic"

Mission - Priorities of Life

The OTOA does NOT teach one specific "tactic", we apply principles. Officers will be instructed that the specifics of the mission will drive the "tactic". Everything in the world of the “tactical minded” officer is built on principles; sound principles develop into good tactics. Our goal is to send our graduates back to your agency with the knowledge and foundation of the established principles of the OTOA and the NTOA.

The OTOA Basic SWAT School will set the groundwork to mastery of the basics.
  • SWAT
  • Patrol
  • Task Force Officer
  • Corrections
  • Any member of the military Active, Reserve or National Guard components
  • Agencies interested in enhancing their response capabilities

Students will be introduced to contemporary tactics and techniques which include, but are not limited to: historical overview of SWAT, team organization and structure, resolution of barricaded suspect situations, individual and team movement, structure searches, and room clearing, warrant service, and multiple field training exercises. The student will also be exposed to basic safe weapons handling and live-fire application of mission-specific weapons in a Team and Close Quarters environment. This is a hands-on school where students practice tactics and techniques in the field.
