The Attorney General’s Office, in partnership with OPOTA, is introducing the next technological advancement in peace officer training through Virtual Reality (VR). This innovative training tool allows officers to engage in realistic scenarios that simulate high-stress situations. By using VR, officers can practice responding to and defusing potentially volatile situations with an emphasis on soft skills and crisis management techniques. The immersive experience of VR training replicates real-life trauma, distractions, and emotional reactions, providing officers with an invaluable opportunity to hone their skills in a safe, controlled environment.
The training scenarios cover key topics including mental health crises, domestic violence, school violence, the adolescent brain, suicide prevention, and handling irate family members. These scenarios aim to better prepare officers for handling critical, emotionally charged situations in the field.
