Course Description

OTOA Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) Track

This 1-day training session is designed for tactical medical professionals who wish to enhance their skills and knowledge in providing medical support during high-stress, real-world operations. The course consists of 4 hours of lecture followed by 4 hours of hands-on scenario-based training in a dynamic and realistic environment.

Participants will be introduced to the latest recommendations from the Committees on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC). Key topics covered include tactical medical pre-planning, patient assessment, hemorrhage control, and airway management.

Through live-action simulations, participants will have the opportunity to practice medical procedures in high-pressure scenarios, such as managing casualties in "bad places" (dangerous or hostile environments). Real-time instruction and feedback will be provided during the exercises, allowing participants to refine their skills and enhance their confidence in delivering effective medical care during tactical operations.

Student Requirements

This is NOT an introductory class. Students must be EMT, AEMT,
Paramedic, RN, PA, DO, or MD with previous TEMS training or experience.

Equipment list:

  • BDUs
  • Boots
  • Vest
  • Helmet
  • Eye protection 
  • Chemical protection mask with carrier.
  • No weapons of any kind (to include firearms, knives, chemical agent sprays, noise/flash diversionary devices, etc.) 
  • If you carry a tactical medical load-out, bring it with you.
  • Training tourniquets, gauze, and dressings will be supplied.
